ABOUT CHERYL

Cheryl found that her passion for helping startup businesses with tight financial resources was not cost-effective when she worked one-on-one with small business owners.

She developed a series of training classes that small business owners can take on an as-needed basis, or in a specific sequence to match the just-in-time training needs of today's fast-paced marketing environments.

Cheryl developed these classes using the vast experience she gained while working for Fortune 500 companies (such as Xerox Corporation and Control Data Corporation) and as a consultant to startup entrepreneurs in the San Francisco/San Jose Bay Area. Cheryl's background has given her excellent insight into the key factors of a successful marketing and public relations campaign.

Cheryl has taught marketing classes for the Small Business Administration (SBA) in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2001. From 2004 to 2010, she became an Small
Business Development Center (SBDC) consultant in San Jose, California. In this capacity, she volunteered her time to provide free one-on-one counseling on marketing strategies to local small businesses. From 2001 to 2010, she was also a volunteer marketing advisor for members of the Inventors Alliance association in the Bay Area.

Cheryl previously conducted Internet public relations and online marketing campaigns for various small businesses and professional associations in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was instrumental in helping one organization achieve its annual objectives within six months--quadrupling meeting attendance, doubling mailing list subscriptions, and increasing its visibility throughout the Bay Area.

Cheryl began her career in software development and has experience in all phases of product development from design through product launch. Cheryl's background includes using guerilla-style techniques to market and sell software to major corporations. This experience gave her critical insight into the key factors of successful marketing and PR campaigns for both high- and low-tech entrepreneurs. She was a key member of the Xerox Ventura Publisher marketing team, whose product initially owned 80% of the PC desktop publishing software market. She was also a top Xerox Ventura Software sales representative, achieving President's Club status twice.

She is a member of CoachVille and a founding member of the International Association of Coaches (IAC). She has a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.A. in mathematics from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.

Mission

Cheryl has created a strategic marketing model that enables startups and small companies to develop cost-effective marketing and public relations strategies that provide results. This strategic marketing model is presented through phone and classroom courses, workshops, group coaching, and consulting.

This marketing model provides the tools you need to:
  • Identify your objectives and focus on your planned marketing tactics.
  • Quickly evaluate new and unexpected marketing opportunities.
  • Rapidly change marketing direction while maintaining your original objectives.
  • Identify when objectives should be changed, and ease the transition to the new objectives.
Who I Work With

I typically work with startup businesses which share the following characteristics:
  • Been in business for less than five years
  • Tight financial resources, so focus is on "the most bang for the buck"
  • A willingness to employ "outside the box" strategies and tactics
  • Backgrounds in high-tech, product inventions, or professional services (e.g. coaching, consulting, graphic designers, video producers, writers, massage therapists)
  • No business or marketing plan (or they have not updated their original)
  • A basic knowledge of how to use email and how to search the Internet
